28/02/2010 Buddha Day

Started walking ( Well Tracey walked and Grahame limped along) towards the tourist centre and discovered the free bike hire called Bangkok Smile Bikes from Bangkok Tourism. The route we took:

Started at Chang Wangna Pier; Phrasumeru Fortress; Back to pick up my hat and got a little lost; Democracy Monument (looks like birds wings); Lohaprasada; Mahakan Fortress; Wat Ratchandaram; Bangkok City Hall and the Giant Swing; 14th October 1973 Memorial; Wat Mahannapharam; Chao Pho Seo Shrine; Ministry of Defence; Temple of the Emerald Buddha and the Grand Palace (couldn’t get in!); back to the river at Rachini Pier and follow this to Ratchaworodit Pier (where we stopped for a drink); then back past the universities and the National Museum to the start point.

After our trek on the bikes we too the 3 baht barge across the river and took a quick look around – not too interesting as we were hungry and looking for lunch and there were no nice restaurants there. Back on another ferry down the river and this time it was free! Well there was no-one to pay on either side so we don’t know what happened. Found a place for lunch and tried the big river prawns which weren’t very tasty!

Back to Khao San Road for tea but we caved in when we found a Hungry Jack’s (Burger King over here) which we hadn’t tasted for ages! We also checked out tour prices.
