Got up early and headed over to check out the beach. Wow, the first surf beach we have seen for ages! We had a great morning on the beach – apparently no-one else gets out of bed early here so it was not crowded at all). After our early morning swim we took Tracey’s raggedy pants to a local tailor to get copies made and to save her from the embarrassing holes that she was currently flaunting (despite a few repair jobs the fabric had just become way too thin!). The tailor said they would be ready in 24 hours so we went back to hire a bike for the day.
We basically circled the island clockwise but it was a lot larger than we had anticipated and after only a few stops to take pictures and check out the scenery (including one at ‘Buddy’s bar’) we found we were only a quarter of the way around with a long way to go! We checked out lots of temples including a few inspiring one’s perched out along the coast plus an interesting boat temple at Pagoda Laem Sor. We looked at lots of beaches but decided the north east coast really had the pick of the bunch and ended up back in Nathon Town at teatime.
We found that there was a bikie convention on in town so in addition to the usual night market food stalls there were heaps of beer tents set up by the wharf. Had dinner there and wandered through the night market munching on home-made chips on a stick and corn in a cup! Made our way home along the north coast in the dark via the local shopping centre for some basic supplies (including a bottle of vodka for about $4 aussie) and found some ice cream before heading to bed.
