Amazing – I (Tracey) actually got up early and went for a run around the walled and moated Changmai City (well part of the wall – it was the first run for weeks!) This was an active day altogether.
Next we tackled the massive hill to visit the temple at the top – Wat Phra That Doi Suthep – one of the North’s most sacred temples. Luckily we had a 115cc bike (a little blue Fino which is probably the type of bike I would buy for cruising around Wagga). Of course there were about 300 steps once we arrived (the higher you build your temple the closer to God is the theory). Once we had climbed the steps and managed to avoid most of the hawkers we discovered that the Stupa was under renovation anyway. However we did get a great view back over the city of Chiang Mai. Photos were dodgy because Chiang Mai is always steeped in mist being up in the mountains (the valley is 300 metres above sea level and the surrounding mountains\peaks are the highest in the country).
Back to town via the airport to find flights but that was a waste of time – found it was very expensive to fly from here to Luang Prabang! Later found flights online with Lao Airlines (the only ones without an office at the airport of course!)
Had the hottest Thai dinner ever at the Airport restaurant! As we were starving we had to eat it but it must have been lets kill westerner day as we were on fire. They were probably out the back laughing their heads off.
