21/02/2010 Tailor made

We rose early so that we could get a bit more use out of the bike and headed first to Samui International Hospital. Grahame had a little lump on his lip that wouldn’t go away so we then got to experience the great medical service in Thailand first-hand. There were several hospitals on the island so we went to one just a little north of Chaweng. The nurses were great and the whole episode very efficient – in less than forty minutes he had seen a doctor and received a whole bunch of tablets (of course while he was there he got them to look at a whole list of little ailments) and after picking up the newly made garments from the tailor we were off to finish our road trip.

We headed north this time so that we could check out Choeng Mon, Tong Son Bay and the other northern beaches that we had missed in the darkness of yesterday’s trip. Choeng Mon was just gorgeous although it was exclusive property of a five star resort so we could only take pictures from above. Next stop was lunch and a swim at Tong Son Bay where there were only two resorts and a lovely protected swimming beach. We stayed here for a couple of hours and once we had cooled off headed west along the coast. Checked out the ‘Big Buddha’ at Bo Phut but we didn’t really find any beaches along this part of the coast to match what we had seen before so turned around at Bang Por and headed back home. Along the way we tried to find a track to the amazing Wat that was set up on the hill (you could see it from the Big Buddha) but despite following signs and taking a multitude of tracks inland we were mystified and gave up as it turned dark.
