5/1/2010 Borobudur & Prambanan

Today we hired another car and driver to take us to Borobudur & Prambanan. Unfortunately his English was not as good as the driver in Surabaya. Still the destination far outweighed that disappointment – Borobudur was way beyond either of our expectations. A stunning Buddhist temple built in the 9th century so incredible that I cannot begin to describe its impact – go & look this one up on the net! We spent hours there with an incredibly knowledgeable & passionate guide who described the history & the meaning of the intricate reliefs and Buddhist images carved into its sides and we will remember this experience as one of the highlights of our trip to Indonesia.

We drove from here to Prambanan – a Hindu temple complex for an equally awe-inspiring sight & tour before returning exhausted to Yogyakarta. Our only disappointment was that we didn’t have more time to explore this beautiful city as our Indonesian visas run out tomorrow.
