20/12/2009 Lombok drivers beware…

Another lazy day by the pool – still not feeling the best so we just went up to Barry’s café for coffee and then got prices for a trip to Flores. Decided that we probably didn’t have time to go to the Gili Islands and Flores and back to Kuta so we will save Flores and the Komodo Dragon for another trip. Grahame used the opportunity to give me (Tracey) a lesson on the motorbike which she was great at until I had to double Grahame - that was a bit nerve-wracking (how the dynamic changes!) Anyway I learnt that I could ride if I needed too – it’s just like a pushbike with a motor. Later that evening we went back to Barry’s to try out the food – good fish and chips - and then met his wife Julie, Daughter Aisa and friend Sylvie who we will travel to Gili Meno with on Tuesday.
Finished the evening in the ‘Happy Café’ who had a great band and we even got up to sing. Karaoke is a bit different here – they have Karaoke rooms but they are money-making enterprises where you rent the room out for hours. However whenever there is a local band they are usually happy to let anyone get up and sing with them and often the local singers are pretty bad so you feel quite confident. Last night was an exception as the band were very professional and it was great to listen to them play all the old favorites along with a few local songs.
