10/12/2009 Ripped off!
Today we got brave and hired a moped which we rode over to Sanur. (Moped; 50000Rp and Petrol 250000Rp!! Ripped off!) Sanur is much quieter than Kuta and has a lovely beach in the fishing bay. We stopped here for lunch at ‘Stiff Chilli’ – pizza and gelato and then had a swim in the crystal clear water. While we were swimming the local fishermen ran down all excited about a school of fish they had spotted but after casting out their nets were sadly disappointed as all of the little fish jumped over the nets and away. Then we rode north up the East Coast via Kusamba to Padang Bai – the harbour where all the ships leave for East Indonesia. It was a long ride on a bumpy road and our asses have never been so sore! On the way back we stopped off at a lonely beach – Pantai Lembeng and witnessed a Hindu Purification Ceremony, where the local families scatter the ashes of their dead over the water. We left fairly quickly realizing that this was a private occasion. That evening we went to the Stadium Bar for a quiet dinner as we were both exhausted and had our first fight – hopefully it will be the only one. I left and found a drink at the Ramayana Bar overlooking the pool and Grahame got online and updated our blog.
