1/1/2010 A rare Indonesian Holiday

New Years Day so we followed heaps of locals to see what they were doing. There were thousands of motorbikes, seriously there was a line of bikes in either direction headed to somewhere. We discovered it was a beach that apparently pretty much most of the island goes to on New Years Day as it is one of their limited public holidays. Way to crowded for us so we turned around and found what we thought was a deserted beach but as usual their radar picked us up and from out of nowhere somebody was trying to sell us coconuts!!!
Anyway they finally left and we had the beach to ourselves for at least 5 minutes and a mini bus of locals arrived obviously sick of the overcrowded beach over the hill. After paying a 'parking' fee to a dubious local we headed back into town and went to the Novotel for happy hour cocktails. Pinacolada in a coconut - Yummo!!!

We had dinner there and got to watch Michael Jackson 'This Is It' on a screen on the beach. Well that was ‘It’ for poor old Michael and the same for us, we headed back to the hotel for sleepy time.
