Unfortunately we had to leave Gili Trawangan this morning – this has been a highlight of our trip so far – relaxed days soaking up the rays and friendly bars and people. Back on the mainland we decided to travel lighter and managed to send my bag and 20kg back home! Most of this was clothes along with a few souvenirs we had collected along with my mini hair-straightener & brush (I can just do my hair with my fingers now anyway!) No more lugging the big wheelie bag on & off ferries!
We then hired a little jeep for the week (@$17 a day!) & drove in the afternoon to Senaru which is a little town high in the mountains in the north of Lombok – it is so cool here & it even rained! We arrived quite late & found a basic room for $10 and I mean basic! However it included one of the best banana pancake breakfasts we have had so far (these are a Lombok breakfast specialty). We played Ping Pong & drank beer with the local guys until dinnertime & had fresh chicken for tea - we know it was fresh because they chopped off its head in front of us!
