24/01/2010

Although Tracey was ill we got up and wandered through the Old Town which was a bit disappointing considering this was the reason we had visited Vigan. The buildings had the potential to be beautiful examples of Pilipino architecture but like everything in the Philippines, no maintenance had been undertaken for the past 100 years and they were just derelict, mostly abandoned shells – a few had shops in the downstairs rooms but they were just selling the usual touristy rubbish. After a couple of hours wandering Tracey went back for a sleep and Grahame went off to buy the local McDonalds ripoff ‘??" Bee”. He also found out where the bus station was, avoiding the constant hawking of the cyclos. Later that evening after it had cooled down we went back out together and bought books (new books are very cheap over here) and found a karaoke bar for dinner and drinks. Wandered back home via the festival which was still going strong!

Stayed in Vigan, Philippines
